Maintenance with Bear North
The Process
Regular maintenance is essential for saunas to keep them safe, efficient, and enjoyable. Over time, the high heat and humidity can cause wear on wooden surfaces, benches, and heaters. Without proper care, wood can absorb moisture and develop mold or odors, reducing the sauna's comfort and lifespan. Regularly checking and cleaning heating elements, stones, and ventilation helps ensure even heating and energy efficiency. Maintenance also includes treating or sanding wood surfaces to keep them smooth and prevent splinters. A well-maintained sauna not only lasts longer but also provides a cleaner, healthier environment for relaxation.
Here's what we check:
Audit sauna heater.
Check overall function of all elements in the sauna.
Ensure proper even heating.
Check that electric elements working properly and change if necessary.
Inspect rocks for settling or breaking down.
Rock removal at least once per year. Clean out inside of the heater and restack the rocks. Replacement is also available as needed. Both wood & electric rocks need to be inspected and cleaned out.
Audit room for decay in wood.
Winterize, if applicable.
Clean room - clean with a natural cleaner.
Optional oiling of benches with natural, non-toxic Parrifin oil to improve longevity and ease of cleaning.
